This place has good food and more than just burgers. It’s especially noteworthy since it’s an airport restaurant. I had the fish and chips, and they were top-notch. Also, the table service was surprisingly good, even though the hostess was handling the service in the entire restaurant. It’s also open later than most of the other places in the airport, so a good bet for a late dinner while waiting for a red eye.
We Stopped here on a whim while we were getting a purse repaired next door, and we were delighted by the quality of the sushi. I’d say it’s the best quality sushi available at lunch that I’ve found in Vancouver. Sure, you can go to a high-priced omakase for dinner, but if you want really good quality fish, it’s not just the usual tuna and salmon slices. It’s harder to find at lunchtime.
The Chirashi bowl here is a really great way to explore a variety of their fresh offerings at a reasonable price. The lunch special comes with a salad and their miso soup, which is particularly delicious because they make their own broth.
It’s interesting that their orientation on healthy food includes serving everything with brown rice. That might not be my first choice, but it was very good.
This is definitely now at the top of my go-to list for sushi lunch in Vancouver.
Great place in Gastown with a large outside seating area and an indoor area that is like a sports bar. Really friendly service and a nice menu with lots of appealing choices.
We went for a drink late after a walking tour and just had the garlic edamame as a snack, and it was really delicious. Definitely worth checking out again.
This is a cozy restaurant in Gastown with a traditional French menu. They’re the sort of dishes that you would get in the French countryside, rather than elevated cooking: favorites like boeuf bourguignon and French onion soup.
Everything we had was nicely prepared, if not the finest French food I’ve ever had, and the service was welcoming and the environment pleasant. The prix fixe dinner with three courses, plus the wine pairings, is a fairly good deal.
This is a bright, sunny place that focuses on kiosk ordering and offers fluffy pancakes and chicken karaage. We didn’t try the fluffy pancakes, but the chicken karaage was okay. It’s offered in a variety of flavors, but we kind of wanted the classic style because we like a nice crunchy crust rather than it getting soggy from being over-sauced. However, even the classic style was not actually crusty the way traditional chicken karahi is. It was more of a steamed sort of a coating, kind of like Kentucky Fried Chicken’s original recipe. Not bad, but not exactly what I was looking for.
